DANCEHALL FRIENDS

DANCEHALL FRIENDS

Friendship is a topic that if you were to go by dancehall music is an extremely bad thing or a crazy thing to be involved in.

What is a friend? and why does our culture seem to condemn friendship?
Let me make this very clear there are various types of friends.

NEW FRIENDS
Is there a time period when its OK to make friends? Its been my observation that when an individual is down he has no problem getting friends and help from "new" friends but when this same individual starts having some form of progress making "new" friends is undesirable.
What is the logic behind this? I have always thought this was one of the stupidest things that was always promoted in dancehall.

Everybody wants to believe that there is someone out there for them. A soulmate if you will, a "friend" for lack of a better word to spend the rest of your days with.
Everyone was born alone unless you were twins or triplets etc so I guess we should live life with no friends (since if I gather any friends the would be "new")
All your current friends at one point was a "new" friend

FAKE FRIENDS
Fake friends are opportunists, they usually pretend to be your friend based on the things you can provide them whether it be money, contacts, clout or sometimes services you can provide.

TRUE FRIENDS
Before we start talking about "true friends" let us at first look at ourselves and our current situations. Are we true friends to any particular people? Do we have the capacity to be true friends?

  • True friends are selfless not selfish
  • True friends will support you even if it hurts his own interest
  • True friends will help without you sending a request without expecting something in return
  • True friends keeps it real with you, let you know what you need to hear not what you want to hear
  • A Mother is a true friend to her child
Are you a true friend? Can you be one?

I have to believe that all the songs that I made reference to could not have been talking about "true friends"

From a personal level I appreciate all my friends, I would not be who I am today without friends, I will not progress to my full potential without some friends that I'm sure I haven't even met yet. Big up all a mi true friends, big up also the not so true friends you have time to turn it around. And to my future new friends I look forward to meeting you.
