DREAM BIG

In my journey I have met, communicated with, encountered many people of many walks of life. I have been to Europe a few times, Asia several times, The Caribbean (obviously) and various cities and towns in North America and all the other places that don't fall in these geographic locations I have access to their residents via the web.


So with that said, I have had and still have to opportunity to communicate with the world. But here's the kicker:

I am writing this blog for the aspiring artist, the aspiring DJ, the aspiring writer, I am writing this blog for you as long as you are a DREAMER

As kids we all had big dreams, and for most of us, as we grew older our dreams got smaller and for some of us our dreams went away.

Common excuses are:

"LIFE GOT IN THE WAY" or "WE HAD TO GROW UP"

Someone told me this (I'm not sure who) but I am going to tell it to you

"NOT ALL DREAMS COME TRUE, BUT DREAMS NEVER DREAMT NEVER COME TRUE"


Every success story began with a dream, Every Skyscraper you see, every successful person, every amazing invention you see


SO WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?

Many people claim they want success but don't have a clue about what it is they want to be successful at. You have to know where you are going in order to make the necessary preparations for the trip so take the time to figure out what you really want.

You have to want it so bad that you get excited about it. THE THOUGHT OF SUCCESS SHOULD EXCITE YOU, this is very important because it is this excitement and desire that will help you in the times when you feel like quitting. (and there will be times)

If you are an artist, a DJ, a writer or most fields progress involves exposing more people to your work, i.e. the more people that know about and appreciate your work the better.

I am a dancehall artist/dj/entertainer/creative writer etc etc and I have a email list of over 10,000 people (if you are reading this on blogspot and you are not on my email list go to http://www.reverbnation.com/fudgiespringer and sign up)



I am not trying to imply that I'm a success in dancehall but I do have fans (no matter how small a number) all over the world, and my music is being played in various countries around the world.



I started this less than 5 years ago in Pittsburgh PA being basically an unknown who didn't even know how to mix two songs.



I am no where near my goals by a stretch of the imagination but I do know the importance of continuously reaching out to new people.



When I was marketing my first song "pussy good" I had the mentality that no one is going to help me so if I have to give this song to everyone in the world personally I was going to do it.



so I started reaching out to as much people that I could on all the available social networks, I had cd giveaways everywhere I went, I voiced dubplates for DJs with influence and or DJs with potential.



This wasn't a problem because I did and still do, just as you do now, have access to everybody in the world, right from home at my desk.



Get It?

If you are an aspiring musician like me, get your music in front of new people every day, if you are an aspiring writer get your work in front of new people everyday, if you are a plumber .... get your business card (your business) in front of new people everyday.


The more people you expose the better your results are

Set a benchmark to keep track of your progress (eg. if you benchmark is 3 people a day, a 5 person day is a great day)

Way more people will reject you than accept you (look at me I'm your resident dancehall reject lol)

But that doesn't matter as long as you do what it takes to get to those who will

I have so much to say, pursuing success is one of my favourite topics

But I am not writing a novel

CHANGES.... SWITCHING ... GOOD BAD INDIFFERENT?


"The Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting the results to vary"

This is an overly used cliche that we may have all heard before but we all at times seem to disregard its simple logic.

We have been taught that "don't change" , "doh switch", "stay real" as if all this is synonymous, people would have you think that change is bad and or frowned upon.


Change is the few inevitable things in life , especially since growth is change, progress is change, "learning from your mistakes" is change.

Do you honestly want to be in the same situation you are in now, five years from now?

If your situation now is the same as it was 5 years ago, how happy would that make you?

So change to me looks like something that we should all aspire to achieve.

Sometimes change is something that you have to consciously pursue, sometimes change requires effort

if you are unsuccessful now and you aspire to "change" or be successful its going to take some effort but it starts with the conscious decision to change or to be a success


this is a poem I wrote (when I wrote poetry)


Success or Failiure?


Which one do we choose?


Do we choose to be happy?


Or we like singing the blues?



Winner or loser?


Which word best describes?


Do we like our situations?


Or are we wasting our lives?



Change or continue?


Which word makes more sense?


Will the present be the future?


Or will it tomorrow be past tense?



These questions & answers are decided each day


But look at our situations,
are we as smart as we say?



Before we get offended,
we should hear our inner voice


The message is very clear


"SUCCESS IS A CHOICE !"



Let me say that in my opinion having alot of money and business success and your personal and family life is a mess is not TRUE SUCCESS

A successful person has that balance of career success and personal and family success.


This weekend for me has been an eye opener or should I say a reminder to open my eyes.

Why do we often have 20 20 vision and can't see

Why do we often have perfect hearing but can't hear and or listen

Why are we so smart and don't think

why do we love so hard and act like we don't care



The new year is approaching fast and I'm not making any resolutions I am aspiring to change

• I want fans who don't like derogatory music, I want to drive with my mom and listen some Springer (so I'll have to be more rounded)


• I don't want to have one of the highest unfollower rates on twitter (so I need to be more weary of peoples feelings)


• I want to be a positive influence on my friends, fans and acquaintances (I need more blogs like this one)


• I want to write more, sing more, perform more, promote more, record more (so I need to quit acting like I already made it)

But most of all I want to make sure home is OK, I've been neglecting home ever since I lived there

Sometimes I feel like I don't live there lol

but home is where the heart is, and its a shame the things that often have to happen for us,(me) to realize and embrace this

My friends join me and aspire to change, Aspire to be more than you are now, decide to succeed in all facets of your life

I know all the reggae songs say we shouldn't switch or change


BUT FUCK IT !!! I'M SAYING WE NEED TO!!! WITH MI OR NOT 2011 I'M SWITCHING!!!!!

Who is SHEKA FAMOUS? A dancer? A THIEF? A cutey? CONFUSED? ALL OF THE ABOVE??

Why do people cross me?
Is it because I sing and play pussy songs?
Dem no know say the pen is deadlier than the sword?


To me a person's word is their bond, If your word is not reliable you are not the type of person that I aspire to deal with, professionally or otherwise.

If you are broke... I am the type of friend that would text you a control number from western union

If you are going through personal problems, I'm the type of friend who can at least always provide a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on.

Most of the people I deal with in the dancehall community, I consider my friends (and the previous 3 statements apply to them)


Since I have been involved in dancehall, I have put together a fairly big network of artists, dancers, selectors and dancehall personalities. Most of whom I consider to be friends. I had an experience this past weekend though that has me re-evaluating how easily I give an individual the title of "trusted friend"



This past saturday I was booked for a dance in Virginia Beach called Pum Pum Audition. Accompanying me was 2 female dancers from Cleveland and a few dancers from Pittsburgh.
Friday I received a phone call that re-arranged my plans (The Cleveland girls couldn't make it)

This was a predicament because as much as I know that people in VA wanted to see me, I know that without some crazy female dancers the Pum Pum Audition just wouldn't be the same.

So I made a few calls to see if I could get some last minute replacements.

Friday evening I spoke to Tasheka Johnson aka Sheka "Famous" on her cellphone 1-201-898-7994 (house 347-587-1869) I explained my situation. She assured me that she could do it, I should buy 2 bus tickets and wire her $US 100 on that Saturday morning.


Sheka called me 9:30am that saturday morning to see when I would send the money. I sent the money about 10am and waited for confirmation from my dancing "friend" that she had received it.

At about noon after not hearing from her, I called. Someone answered the phone and informed me that "her daughter" was not coming to VA because she didn't get permission. At this point my only response was "No Problem"

I called western union to get my money back they informed me that it had been picked up at 10:15 am in Brooklyn.

I called Sheka's phone and It was explained to me by "the mom" that I didn't ask her permission to send "her daughter" any money so why am I calling about it.

Again my response was "No Problem"

I was somewhat, disappointed, surprised and upset, that my "good good friend" would set up such an elaborate scheme to steal $US 100.
I guess dancers in NYC don't do so well... Or just maybe Sheka isn't doing so well, Maybe Sheka need to listen to my song "Fuck and Collect" and won't have the need to steal petty cash and burn bridges.

I decided to make SHEKA FAMOUS ... famous (since I'm sure most of you have never heard of her before today)
I called a few friends from NYC and told them the story (DJ Kenny, Skerrit Bwoy, Rhythm Pink, Famous Kid) and within I few hours I recieved this texts from Sheka

"U NEED TO DONT CALL UP MU FUKIN NAME I WILL FUKIN SEND UR SHIT BACK IN THE FUKIN MORNIN ASAP NIGGA U GOT THE RONG BYTCH (PrettY SHEKA)"

pay attention to her excellent spelling and grammar... shortly after I recieved this text

"GIMME UR STINK ASS NAME ND CITY SO I CAN SEND YA SHIT NOWWWWWW (PrettY SHEKA)"

these texts made me chuckle, I wish she had told me prior that she was the "RONG BYTCH" as she so eloquently put it lol

Sheka dear I don't need the $US 100 as much as you do, and the name and city it came from is probably my name and my city. Hooked on Phonics wasn't available for everyone so I feel your pain and I understand.

I have a feeling that you cannot afford to repay me and I honestly dont want it. Skerrit say him will take di $US100 so if you want to you can give it to him at the next event. Thanks in advance and I hope you enjoyed this blog.

Friends with benefits

In a perfect world these would be the only relationships present


Ladies

1. Imagine a life that just involves you and I having fun without any of the mushy stuff

we do not live in the "perfect" world so I just painted an impossible picture

Its an impossible picture for most people because of our feelings, egos, tradition , society etc

We all generally either love hard , or fear the embarrassment and or betrayal affiliated with infidelity

• Case in point there are a lot of people in relationships right now who despise each other but if they found that the other cheated would be devastated.


• There are men who have multiple women and if he finds that one of them cheats he would be devastated


• There are people who go into committed relationships knowing that they will not be faithful


• There are unfaithful people in relationships who won't stop but dread getting discovered


• You also have the people who as them buss a nut dem fall in love


• Then you have those who want to just fuck you once, no strings attached

these and many similar situations are prevalent in our "unperfect world"

We are taught to grow up, find a mate, get married, settle down and live happily ever after

sounds lovely doesn't it

I guess it could be argued that in a perfect world Everyone would be in a "Monogamous Relationship" and have the above mentioned scenario

Hey perfection for you may not be same as perfection for me so lets just agree to disagree on that

but as I said before

"we do not live in the "perfect" world so I just painted an impossible picture"

Dreams never dreamt never come true so I am an advocate of striving for perfection...

Think about this scenario


A good friend of yours that you hang with all the time has a woman or starts talking to a new chick



All of a sudden your boy starts talking all kinda shit about the woman,

"All she does is argue"

As a friend you may suggest that if this woman is so negative or makes you so unhappy you might wanna explore other options.
After you make your comments or suggestions based on his portrayal of his woman

He goes to her and says

"Mi breddren doh like yu"
"Mi breddren say mi fi leave you"
"Mi breddren say you trying to trap me"

The Young lady now dislikes you and in defense of her self (and disgust that someone who knows nothing about her good just dislike her like that) says

"Your breddren is a hater"

"Fuck your breddren"

Then he returns to say and says what his girl said about you and in response to any questions about why she feels this way his response is something stupid like

"Mi no know!"

or

"That bitch is crazy! I already told you"

Is this a weird picture?

Does this only happen to me?

It has happened to me 3 times in the last 3 years

The first time I didn't handle it well .....but each subsequent time I went straight to the source and in every instance

I found mi "breddren" to be the instigator and often times just a straight liar

Coming to a logical explanation of why this happens to me hasn't been entirely easy
But maybe if I had a friend who portrayed himself to be a whore I wouldn't want him to be cool with my girl

A WHORE SEEN AT CARNIVAL

Carnival , soca music, calypso and all these things have never been something I paid much attention to.

A lot of reggae heads probably go to NYC's labour day parade or Toronto's Caribana and have a great old time and yet hardcore reggae people still don't really claim soca as one of there favourite music or even as something that they like.





Me personally I have many friends from all over the caribbean and I have been known to play a little soca segment at maybe a college party or if I wanna mix it up a little at BCIF. And when I say "little" I mean "little" lol my soca segment has been the same set of songs for over 5 years with may 1 or 2 adjustments, (Kevin Lytttle, Rupee - Tempted to Touch & Jump, Roll it Gyal, Mamacita just to name a few)


Bottom line Soca anno really my ting (Straight reggae/ dancehall mi say)


Forward to Summer 2k10


After years of declining I decided to accept and invitation to Boston Carnival (which would entail a weekend of straight soca music and parties). This year my schedule was free and I decided to go outside of my box.

Lemme tell you this when they say,

"No sleep til Monday!"

They mean that shit


I'm not going to draw this out with all the details of my weekend but lemme just say:

1. I got to Boston Friday we went to a Body Paint party which was over at 2am den we start pree some after parties
2. Saturday morning we up at 6am to go to Jouvert (a pre- carnival road march)
3. Around 1pm we go home for an hour then back on the road for carnival until about 8pm
4. At 10:30 pm we on the road again going to an Annual Camoflauge Party which again done at 2am the after party preements
5. Sunday morning by 10 am we on our way to a Soca boatride til 3pm then Sunday evening various cook outs and a party called last lap.

I'm a party person, believe me....

BUT I COULDN'T HANG!!

Along the way I realized that soca music is happy music and its audience transcends age. Its the first time I've ever seen old people and young people partying together (not posing like at reggae parties, but dancing and galavanting) and not in individual segments but none stop vibes


I also realized that Trinidadians can drink and ain't no shame in there game lol


And I now can palance, chip on the pavement, sell pipe, wine on anything,jump with no behaviour, invite girls to jump on my jumpa cable....

I was told this recently by a person who was trying to express their "lack of fondness" for me


the person never like me!!!



At first I was kinda upset


"Who the fuck are you to be saying such things to me?"


This however was a primary example why emotional responses and or reactions are generally the worst ones especially when something is deemed negative.


The truth of the matter is this person was right!


The world does not revolve around me


I may want it to

I may act like it do

but it doesn't and it never will


The more I thought about this cliche

The more revelations came to me


The world doesn't revolve around my eloquent acquaintance (I wont misuse the word friend) either


And my dear reader , I hope you are sitting down because, guess what.......

We all are naturally narcissistic, we all love ourselves and we all like when others praise us, compliment us, look up to us...


It is therefore very easy to create a false image of our self, its very easy to think that we are more than we actually are


It is easy to get carried away the the "hype" or the "hoopla"


We all seem to be naturally defensive also, eg. we deny love due to fear of hurt, we at time takes offense to general statements, when others don't share our point of views we often view them as the "enemy" or the "opposition"


But It's very important to always remember

• Selectors if you are at an event and the sound playing makes a speech about fake friends or badmind people then plays a hot song about that topic don't be offended because thats the only way to introduce such a song.

• Artists, If a selector doesn't like your songs or doesn't play your songs that doesn't mean they are against you


• Ladies if a man who is courting you tells you that you are the most beautiful woman he has ever met that doesn't mean that you are hotter or a better catch than every other woman in the world.


• Reader, If you don't like this article and you generally just can't stand Fudgie Springer, that doesn't mean I'm going to stop writing, singing or spinning and I'm definitely not going to lose any sleep if you confirm these feelings.
